Poliomyelitis (or “polio”) is a viral infection that can cause paralysis and death. In the past, polio was common especially in children. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by national governments with five partners – the World Health Organisation, Rotary International, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Its goal is to eradicate polio worldwide. This goal is nearly reached with only a few countries currently affected by Polio. Immunisation will continue to stamp out the disease in the remaining affected countries and to ensure the disease will not see a come-back.
To raise awareness about this project and to raise funds towards its goal, Rotary Clubs all over the world are showing
Bohemian Rhapsody (PG), a food-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury.
